Me Pal

Me Pal is a software tool for phylogenetic placement of sequence reads. This enables a metagenome to be characterized by estimating the underlying "tree distribution".

The algorithm is similar to that of PPlacer, but uses sequence profiles derived from String Transducers, typically created with the alignment/reconstruction program Prot Pal. This allows indels to inform placements, avoids conditioning on a single reference alignment or using a single read-reference mapping.

The program is currently in development, but will appear in the main DART git repository soon.
